"Antique Birdcage"

I have an admission to make, I am completely in love with Antique Birdcages and have been for a long time. Lucky for me, our great friends at Bausman and Company have loaned us this spectacular red and green Antique Birdcage to be displayed in our Holiday window, after Thanksgiving.

I love the vibrant colors that have faded with time and the festive "flags" that top the peaks of the cage!

To satiate my appetite for antiques of this nature, I found a few lovely options on 1stdibs.com. The one above is from England, circa 1958. Just look at the inlaid details on the wood paneling and the painted nature scenes.

Here is a feminine French birdcage in bright green and gold leaf from the 19th century. Whimsical, charming and miraculously well suited to all seasonal decor, I think they look particularly fantastic around the holidays as they evoke a sense of history.

What kinds of items do you like to decorate with? I would love to know. Happy Thanksgiving!
